Comic Sans Criminal

We've all been there - whether conjuring digital images on Microsoft Paint, writing emails to long-lost friends or grinding out 50-page thesis papers (gasp!) - at one point or another, we've all been guilty of misusing the Comic Sans font.

Hence, some clever fella with Internet access saw opportunity in this global misjudgment epidemic, and created Comic Sans Criminal, a tongue-in-cheek guide to using the correct use of typography, and more specifically, Comic Sans.

It's cleverly designed, colourful and very well typographied (duh!). A short little exercise than is fun for all, even if you're too hooked on the font to change your ways.

Gaga loves meat

The VMAs have always been one of the wildest red carpets. After all, it's MTV, home of outrageous shows like Jackass and Wildboyz. There's nothing the MTV audience hasn't seen that will shock us into speechlessness. Or at least we thought so...

Cue Lady Gaga and her meat dress. Yep, a dress made entirely out of dinner, with a matching headpiece and twine-tied fillet-shoes as the icing on (beef)cake.

Then, Gaga went onstage to receive her award for Video of the Year, presented by Cher, who was dressed like, well, Cher, in her beaded black leather leotard and stockings. That was probably the only time in the history of the universe that a Cher outfit had been upstaged by another piece of clothing (if the meat dress even qualifies as apparel).

I'm not too sure what to think about Lady Gaga's new venture in fashion. She's always been crazy with her outfits, but nothing so edible before. I mean, this is crazy, right?

What do you guys think?

GQ "Rock The Suit”

It's not everyday that Andrew and Ben from MGMT suit up, but when they do work the snappy dressing, the duo clean up very very well.

GQ gathered some of the best and up-coming musicians now and ever. The National, The Walkmen, The Drums and the aforementioned MGMT all appear in GQ's "Rock the Suit", looking super duper dapper. Also in the spread, legendary legend (what other word is there?) David Byrne was in the company of two gorgeous ladies, posing with Santigold and St.Vincent for the magazine.

100 Cats in Ikea

Ikea is probably the world's most renowned furniture chain. Affordable, attractive, flat-packed home furnishings for every man, woman, child and er... cat?

Apparently so.

Ikea's crazy new ad features 100 cats let loose in their Wembley store. The agile little fellas jump and crawl around the Swedish store's displays and the camera crew somehow managed to catch the felines' golden moments traversing the Ikea showroom terrain.

Move over, Keyboard Cat, Ikea cats are the new viral video champ.

Watch the behind-the-scenes and the actual ad above.

Betty White's comeback

Betty White has always been our favourite Golden Girl, and at 78, she's making a comeback, starting with this outrageous Superbowl ad for Snickers.

Here's how it works (spoiler alert):

A bunch of fellas are playing football in the park, and they're all really into it. It's a big serious game. And then there's Betty White. The poor old lady can barely move. She gets a pep talk and a Snickers bar (of course) and transforms into an energetic man, really to score some winning touchdowns. Then comes the tagline: "You're not you when you're hungry".

Now if that ain't true, I don't know what is.

Boom De Ah Da

Probably one of my favourite commercials in recent years. Not only does this Discovery Channel have a super catchy jingle (Boom de ah da, boom de ah da, boom de ah da, boom de ah da), it's also got the educational channel's presenters and stars singing along and about what they love. Mike Rowe, the host of Dirty Jobs, crawls in a sewer while singing: "I love real dirty things", and Man Vs. Wild's Bear Grylls does his part with: "I love arachnids", while holding up a big, scary-looking tarantula.

Funny, heart-warming, personal and 100% Discovery Channel.

No Soup For You!

Seinfeld is a beloved American comedy that ran in the 90s, starring Jerry Seinfeld and his gang of oddball friends.

Jerry is the main character. A comedian living in the Big Apple, Jerry arrives at the oddest situations for the strangest reasons. Then there's George, a lazy, cheapskate and self-centred bald man whose desire to remain lazy, cheapskate and self-involved ensues stomach-crunching hilarity. There's also Jerry's next door neughbour Kramer. He's always coming up with hairbrained ideas and he always makes a grand (clumsy) entrance. Elaine is Jerry's ex-girlfriend who goes through her fair share of love life and work struggles, always due to some irreverent detail that she can't get over.

One of the most memorable Seinfeld episodes ever has to be the soup nazi episode. A soup cafe opened up in the neighbourhood and the food is amazing. The only problem is that the chef is a tyrant, and in order to get your soup, you have to follow a strict procedure when ordering, if not it's "no soup for you!".

Prezi Power

Decades ago, there was the slideshow; a clumsy machine with tiny little plastic square negatives that worked with the click of a button.

Then came the PowerPoint presentation. With all its animations, colours, clip art and flashy slide changes, the world of the business presentation was revolutionized.

Now that we're already more than a decade into the new millenium, it's only befitting that technological advancements pay a kindly visit to the 'old school' PowerPoint presentation. Hence, I present Prezi. Sure, it's been around for a while, but now more than ever, people are turning to this interactive presentation platform to make an impression at work or at school.

The concept is simple; a modern take on the traditional whiteboard. How does one simulate the whiteboard experience on the Internet? Your mouse is your laser pointer, and it will take you anywhere on your Prezi virtual mindmap. It's sort of like your own little RPG game; presentation style.

We Love: Karla's Closet

Thanks to Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, vintage clothing and accessories have seen a resurgence, and everything second-hand became wardrobe gems. Girls would raid their mothers' closets and flock to Salvation Armys and Goodwills for cheap and chic finds.

But one problem with this trend is that it's difficult to discern between fashionable and outdated. The key reminder here is: just because it's old, doesn't mean it's vintage.

One girl who gets it right all the time is Karla, who runs the blog aptly named Karla's Closet. Most of what she wears is second-hand or vintage, but she's always meticulous in putting together her outfits. Vintage dresses are complemented with in-season Prada heels, or sunglasses with modern shapes. She never looks like a blast from the past, but always like a worthy homage to fashion predecessors. And she is extra careful with the used clothing she selects; with a strict eye for quality and detail, the girl will never be caught dead in drab hand-me-downs.

UO Bikes

It seems like the bicycle is the new It transport method (if such a thing even exists). Browse through Scott Schuman's streetstyle blog The Sartorialist and you'll realize that good-looking people in great-looking outfits almost always have a couple of wheels nearby. Girls in heels, boys in suits and everything in between; they've all got the bike-balance.

So, if you were wondering how to jump onto the bandwagon (or bicycle in this case), then head on over to Urban Outfitters and Republic Bike's online bike shop, where you can customize your pedal mobile and have it shipped to you. Hmm, so snazzy.

TOMS Shoes

Toms are a shoe company that makes comfy-cool casual slip-on footwear. But what you probably know the company better for, is its deep roots in community work, and more specifically Toms' one-for-one campaign.

The idea is simple: buy one pair of shoes, and Toms will give one pair to a child in need.

But even with their incredible success, these shoe people are not resting on their laurels. They've created an entire social movement, with "One Day Without Shoes" and have constantly churned out interesting collaborations with celebrities like actress Charlize Theron, musician Brandon Boyd and clothing brand Element.
"In 2006, American traveler Blake Mycoskie befriended children in Argentina and found they had no shoes to protect their feet. Wanting to help, he created TOMS Shoes, a company that would match every pair of shoes purchased with a pair of new shoes given to a child in need. One for One. Blake returned to Argentina with a group of family, friends and staff later that year with 10,000 pairs of shoes made possible by TOMS customers."

- Toms' website

Something that is truly empowering to learn from this is that this entire business started with one idea, one trip to Argentina and most importantly, one man. Just goes to show that we all have the ability to exact the change that we desire in the world. It's just about walking the talk, and having insurmountable passion for something.

Here's how it all started, in case you folks need a little jolt in starting your own little (for now) global change.
